Doggie Lives!

This is Day 36 of Doggie's second life...when the vet gave him two weeks to live on April 13, I decided to keep track of how long it would be. Now, the little cat who keeps on chuggin' is at +22. Soon, I will have to put up some pictures of him. He may be skinny, he may be tired, but ask I think he would say if he could talk, "I fooled 'em all!"

Incidentally, we are getting into my favorite time of year. When we can go swimming, watch baseball, and bask in the warm weather.

Plus, my birthday is two weeks from today (June 2). For those of you looking for gift ideas, I prefer small bills; tens and twenties are sufficient. ;)

8 Random Things About Myself...

Well, I got tagged by Brent to list 8 random things about myself. Hmmm...let me think about this one.

1) Counting my computers, I own five DVD players.
2) I prefer pepperoni, banana peppers, and Canadian bacon on my pizza.
3) My favorite TV show is "King of the Hill".
4) My office mascot is a small stuffed lion doll that my landlord named "Tuffy".
5) I collect media guides from college and professional sports teams.
6) I once jumped from a 25 foot high cliff into a river on a whitewater rafting trip.
7) I have four nephews, plus a fifth nephew to be born in September...and no nieces.
8) I am a really bad golfer who has never recorded a "par" score on a single hole.

Because I really don't know any other bloggers personally, I cannot link to eight others. Sorry about that, Carina and Brent. :(

There has been a lot that has happened.

I have been rather lax in posting here...there has not been a new post since February.

First, I found that an college acquaintance of mine from the early 1990s has died. I cannot really call him a friend, since I did not know Jeremy that well. But I was friends with several of his friends, and to see a young man cut down in the prime of his life, with a loving wife and two young daughters, saddened my heart. Even though it had probably been 10 years since I had seen Jeremy, I knew that he enjoyed life and attempted to live it to the fullest every single day.

My friend and former roommate Brent went to the funeral, which was in Reynoldsburg, OH, outside Columbus. He even posted a tribute to his "mon frere" on his blog, which I will link to if I get permission from Brent. Jeremy and Brent were friends since 1990. I sent Brent a couple of e-mails, stating that I was praying for the family and for Brent.

Secondly, I have been ill. I became sick early on Easter Sunday, and didn't eat for 3 1/2 days. My gastro doctor initially thought it was a recurrence of the Crohn's Disease I was diagnosed with in 2005. This theory went out the window when the tests showed things were normal in my belly...and then my wife, the lovely and talented Kimberly, got sick on Thursday of that week with the same thing I had.

Thirdly, we came very close to putting the cat named Doggie to sleep. But, he lives on, primarily because this cat is a fighter. He wasn't supposed to live out the week when Kim got him...in March 1989. That's right, I said March 1989. He was four months old when she got him, and is now 18 years old. He survived dystemper early in his life, and a colon cancer operation in 2003. Now, he has been losing weight, vomiting, and feeling lethargic. On April 13, the vet gave him two weeks to live. As I write this on May 1, Doggie seems to have recovered. A friend at our church gave the cat the nickname "Lazarus". We may need to start calling him that.

Fourth, I am a Cleveland Browns fan, and I am very excited over the results of the NFL Draft. I believe it is their best since 1978, when Ozzie Newsome (a Hall of Famer) and Clay Matthews (who should be in the Hall of Fame) were drafted in the first round. Joe Thomas is an absolute beast who could go down, barring injury, as one of the great offensive linemen in Browns history. And in Brady Quinn, the Browns have the New Face of the Franchise. People will know that Brady Quinn plays for the Browns...even the most casual of football fans. The Miami Dolphins will rue the day they passed on Brady Quinn...because the Fish may be picking Number One overall next year.

And forgive me for asking this, but didn't it seem like the NFL Draft really exploded this year in popularity? I cannot ever remember it being as big as it was this year.
